Naming of Buildings, Facilities and Streets

The following policy shall apply to the naming of all physical facilities and streets on all campuses with the University System of Georgia. The term “physical facility” is intended to include buildings of all types, as well as outdoor areas that may not have physical walls but are nonetheless identifiable areas of campus landscape, such as quadrangles, gardens, lakes, recreation fields, roads, etc.

Approval for naming buildings, facilities or streets in honor of a person for outstanding and distinguished service as a public servant must be submitted through appropriate College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences administrative channels and processed by the dean and director to the University administration and then to the Board of Regents. The honoree must have been disassociated from employment by the University System or from state or federal government employment for at least two years before any recommendation can be considered.
